Maaliskuun lopulla TSYKin lukion kuvataideopiskelijat: Iida Saarivuori, Jaakko Lahdenkauppi ja Ella Töyrylä matkasivat Lappiin yhdessä kuvataideopettajan ja kuvisassistentin kanssa tutustumaan saamelaiseen kulttuuriin ja taiteeseen. Projekti on osa FINAL Kanada-Suomi yhteistyöhanketta ja taideprojektia alkuperäiskulttuureihin liittyen.
Tietämyksen oman maan alkuperäiskulttuurista voisi ajatella kuuluvan yleissivistykseen, mitä ei kuitenkaan koulun oppiaineissa paljoa käsitellä. Projektin tarkoituksena on lisätä nuorten tietämystä ja mielenkiintoa näitä kulttuureita kohtaan. Kanadan Edmontonin MacNallyn koulussa on First Nation opiskelijoita, joiden kulttuuriin meillä on tarkoitus tutustua lähemmin tulevan huhtikuun Kanadan matkan aikana. Kuvataideopettajan mukaan tälle matkalle lähtee yksi Lapin matkalaisista.
Ennen matkaa tapasimme saamelaistaiteilijan Markku Laakson, joka asuu Turussa. Hän tuli kertomaan meille kuvisluokkaan kuvataiteestaan; fotorealistisista maalauksistaan, joissa milloin Elvis milloin saamelaispariskunta taivaltaa Lapin maisemissa. Hänen tuotantonsa sisältää myös valokuvia, performanssia ja videoita, joita hän yhdessä vaimonsa Annika Dahlstenin kanssa. Tapaaminen oli todella avartava ja antoi meille hyvän pohjan matkalle lähtöön. Samoin katsoimme areenalta saamelaista kertovaa dokumenttisarjaa Saamelaisten hiljainen taistelu sekä ohjelman saamelaistaiteilija Niilas Holmbergista.
Lapin matkan tuotoksista, ja myöhemmin Kanadan dokumenttiaineistosta pystytämme pienen taidenäyttelyn. Ensin näyttely tulisi esille Mac Nallyyn 6.-16.4 ja heti sen jälkeen TSYK lukiolle. Tarkoitus on taiteen kautta tuoda esille havaintoja maiden alkuperäiskulttuureista ja heidän elinympäristöstään eteläsuomalaisen opiskelijan näkökulmasta. Kuvataiteen blogiin teemme päivityksiä matkan varrelta.
Ensimmäinen kohteemme oli Rovaniemen taidemuseo Korundi. Tästä jatkaa kuvataiteen assistentti Minna , kuvisope Marja kiittää. Tervetuloa seuraamaan matkaamme kohti Suomen käsivartta aina Pohjois-Norjaan saakka!

TSYK-lukiolaisten taidematka Lappiin alkoi Rovaniemeltä. ”Joulupukin kotikaupungissa” kävimme Korundissa katsastamassa saamelaisen nykytaiteen näyttelyn, mikä oli kokonaisuudessaan hyvinkin mielenkiintoinen ja vaikuttava; oli teosta pelottavista installaatioista perinteisiin maalauksiin ja ironisiin julistepastisseihin. Jotkut työt menivät suoraan luihin ja ytimiin. Taiteiljoita näyttelyssä
oli Markku Laaksosta Suohpanterroriin.
Jotta jaksaisimme taidekokemuksen jälkeen jatkaa matkaa kohti Enontekiötä ja Hettaa, kävimme haukkaamassa jättiläisen kengän kokoiset patongit paikallisessa boheemiretrokuppilassa, Kauppayhtiössä. Kauppayhtiöltä lähdimme päräyttämään autolla kohti Enontekiötä (tai urhoollinen opettaja Marja päräytti). Matka meni melko jouhevasti ja pysähdyspaikasta jossa kahvittelimme Muonion ja Enontekiön välillä voisi kirjoittaa oman romaaninsa – paikka oli kuin toisesta ulottuvuudesta 50 sentin munkkikahvikomboineen, hämärine samaanimusiikkeineen ja kaikenlaisine kummallisuuksineen.
Majapaikkaamme saavuimme yhdeksän aikaan, ja vaikka paikka illan pimeydessä vaikutti hieman karmivalta (ulkoa kuului outoa ulvontaa ja mielikuvitus vilisi), aamun koitteessa paikka häikäisi maisemillaan.
