Each grade has one English enrichment class where ca. 25 % of the teaching is done in English. English is used alongside Finnish as the language of learning in all subjects except Finnish. Parents who wish to have their children in the English enrichment class must apply for it when they enrol their child(ren) in school.<\/p>\n<h4>Goals of teaching in a foreign language<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>To create a positive, broad-minded attitude toward foreign languages, and to prompt courage and desire to use them.<\/li>\n<li>To teach pupils to think on a global level.<\/li>\n<li>To help pupils manage everyday situations using the English language.<\/li>\n<li>To familiarise pupils with the central themes and vocabulary in school subjects as set forth in the curriculum.<\/li>\n<li>To familiarise pupils with the various cultures in English-speaking countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>English enrichment teaching at Kuparivuori School<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Grades 1\u20132<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Language learning is very functional and aims at creating a foundation for oral language skills.<br \/>\nTeaching focuses on understanding English and producing spoken English.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grades 3\u20134<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As language skills develop, more and more teaching is carried out in English.<br \/>\nAll of the central themes in each subject are taught in Finnish. Learning is then enriched using the English language.
